Jordi Savall is one of the most versatile musical personalities of his generation. As a tireless researcher in the field of Early Music, he has been interpreting the repertoire for more than fifty years both as a viol player and as a conductor. Numerous rediscoveries are thanks to him – from Sephardic romances to operas by Vicente Martín y Soler. Together with Montserrat Figueras, he founded the ensemble Hespèrion XXI (1974), which is particularly dedicated to the Early Music of Spain. In 1987, they founded the vocal ensemble La Capella Reial de Catalunya, followed in 1989 by its orchestral counterpart Le Concert des Nations. In 2020, Jordi Savall founded the Capella Nacional de Catalunya as a training center for young singers, and in 2018 “Orpheus 21”, a project involving professional musicians, migrants, and refugees. His intensive concert activity takes him all over the world. In 1991, he recorded the music for the film Tous les Matins du Monde, which was awarded the César Award. More than 230 CDs featuring works from the Middle Ages to the Classical period document his artistic achievements and have received awards including the Midem Classical Award, the International Classical Music Award, and the Grammy Award. In 1998, he founded his own record label Alia Vox. In 2008, Jordi Savall was appointed Ambassador of the European Union for intercultural dialogue and, together with Montserrat Figueras, was named an “Artist for Peace” within the framework of the UNESCO program “Good Will Ambassadors”; he also holds multiple honorary doctorates. In 2026, he was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize.
