Jordi Savall is one of the most versatile musical personalities of his generation. As a tireless researcher in the field of Early Music, he has been interpreting the repertoire for more than fifty years both as a viol player and as a conductor. Numerous rediscoveries are thanks to him – from Sephardic romances to operas by Vicente Martín y Soler. Together with Montserrat Figueras, he founded the ensemble Hespèrion XXI (1974), which is particularly dedicated to the Early Music of Spain. In 1987, they founded the vocal ensemble La Capella Reial de Catalunya, followed in 1989 by its orchestral counterpart Le Concert des Nations. In 2020, Jordi Savall founded the Capella Nacional de Catalunya as a training center for young singers, and in 2018 “Orpheus 21”, a project involving professional musicians, migrants, and refugees. His intensive concert activity takes him all over the world. In 1991, he recorded the music for the film Tous les Matins du Monde, which was awarded the César Award. More than 230 CDs featuring works from the Middle Ages to the Classical period document his artistic achievements and have received awards including the Midem Classical Award, the International Classical Music Award, and the Grammy Award. In 1998, he founded his own record label Alia Vox. In 2008, Jordi Savall was appointed Ambassador of the European Union for intercultural dialogue and, together with Montserrat Figueras, was named an “Artist for Peace” within the framework of the UNESCO program “Good Will Ambassadors”; he also holds multiple honorary doctorates. Le Concert des Nations

The orchestra Le Concert des Nations was founded in 1989 by Jordi Savall and Montserrat Figueras. Its name refers to François Couperin’s work "Les Nations" and its concept of the "goûts-réunis", which seeks to unite musical styles. Le Concert des Nations was the first orchestra whose members predominantly came from Romance-language countries (Spain, France, Italy, Portugal) or from Latin America. At the centre of its historically informed interpretation are works by composers including Charpentier, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Handel, Marais, Arriaga, Purcell, Dumanoir, Lully, Biber, Boccherini, Rameau, and Vivaldi. In 1992, Le Concert des Nations performed its first opera with Vicente Martín y Soler’s "Una cosa rara" at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid. This was followed by performances of Monteverdi’s "L’Orfeo" at the Liceu, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Arsenal in Metz, the Teatro Regio in Turin, and again in 2002 in Barcelona, later also in Brussels, Bordeaux, and Milan. Recent opera productions include Vivaldi’s "Farnace" at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and "Teuzzone" at the Opéra Royal in Versailles. In recent years, alongside Bach’s "Christmas Oratorio" and Handel’s "Messiah", Le Concert des Nations has also devoted itself to works from the Classical and Romantic periods. In 2020, on the occasion of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday, the orchestra recorded all of his symphonies on CD. Further recordings have received awards including the Midem Classical Award and the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. In 2023, Le Concert des Nations was named "Orchestra of the Year" by Gramophone Magazine.
